Volkswagen Touareg (2024)
Volkswagen Touareg
Volkswagen is giving the third edition of the Touareg a major upgrade: they've made significant enhancements to the SUV's suspension, display, and operating system. They've also fine-tuned the front and rear designs, making them even more eye-catching. One standout feature is the brand-new HD matrix headlights in the front, along with sleek LED taillights that form a continuous light strip. And here's something cool: the German version now boasts a Volkswagen logo that lights up in red. Prices begin at €69,200.
Imelda Labbé, Member of the Volkswagen Board of Management for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales: “The new Touareg impresses with top quality and outstanding comfort. We have once again systematically implemented the wishes of our customers in this model: We have sharpened up the design, integrated an illuminated rear logo, and made operation even more intuitive. We've also enhanced the driving characteristics, making our premium Volkswagen even better. The result is a true all-rounder that will excite on-road, off-road and naturally also as a first-class towing vehicle.”
Future-oriented technologies have always made their debut in the Touareg – know-how that often benefits the smaller vehicle classes. Kai Grünitz, Member of the Volkswagen Board of Management for Development: “The Touareg has always been a technology pioneer for us, allowing us to transfer new developments into other brand models as part of a top-down strategy. And we are following the same approach with the new Touareg. It is the first Volkswagen model to be launched with the newly developed HD matrix headlights – one of the best lighting systems in the world. More than 38,000 interactive LEDs project a light carpet exactly onto the driving lane and illuminate the road more precisely than ever before. We will soon transfer this HD matrix lighting system to next smaller SUV-class models.”
The upgraded lighting system. One great feature of the new optional IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights is the absence of glare in the main beam. This means you can keep the main beam on even when you're outside of town, thanks to the interactive LEDs that ensure precise masking for oncoming traffic and vehicles ahead.
Revamped design. The fresh front and rear design instantly distinguishes the new premium SUV. The radiator grille, headlights, and front apron now sport a new appearance at the front. The rear end design has also been sharpened, featuring a continuous horizontal LED strip for the taillight clusters and a red-illuminated Volkswagen logo. It's worth noting that this illuminated logo is a first for a Volkswagen model in Germany, as it was previously only available in markets like China and the US.
All-in-one package - maximum comfort & optimal performance. Volkswagen has made improvements to the Touareg's suspension. One notable addition is the standard roof load sensor, seamlessly integrated with the suspension electronics. This smart system detects roof loads and allows the control system, including ESC (Electronic Stability Control), to intervene earlier, ensuring better driving stability. On the flip side, when there's no roof load, the system enables a sportier performance. Depending on the version, the Touareg offers innovative suspension technologies like active roll compensation (adaptive running gear) and all-wheel steering, further enhancing the driving dynamics of this premium SUV.
Interior update. The new Touareg comes with the Innovision Cockpit as standard, which combines the Digital Cockpit and the top-of-the-line Discover Pro Max infotainment system. In the new model, various functions of the Innovision Cockpit, such as lane-level navigation and high-resolution HD map data, have been optimized for an improved experience. The standard voice control system has also been enhanced. USB-C connections now offer a charging capacity of 45 watts, allowing much faster charging of electronic devices like smartphones, tablets, or laptops (previously 15 watts). Additionally, based on customer feedback, Volkswagen has further improved the high-quality interior of the Touareg. The centre console trims, for instance, have been made even softer for added comfort.
Smart driving assistance features. The Touareg comes packed with a wide array of standard convenience and assistance systems that make driving a breeze. On top of that, there's an extensive selection of optional systems to choose from. Here are a few notable technologies:
- “Travel Assist” (assisted driving up to maximum speed)
- “Park Assist Plus with remote control” (via app for automatically driving into and out of parking spaces, the driver can even control the parking procedure from outside the vehicle),
- “Trailer Assist” (for assisted manoeuvring with trailer)
- “Night Vision” (assistance for night drives)
Diverse range of powertrain options. The new Touareg offers a variety of powertrain choices, including petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid options. When it hits the market, there will be five powertrain versions available. Alongside a turbocharged petrol engine, you can select from two turbodiesel engines and two plug-in hybrids. These engines are highly efficient and come paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and the reliable 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive.
Equipment options. In Germany, the new model will be introduced in a standard version featuring the current front design (starting at €69,200). Additionally, there are two exclusive lines to choose from: "Elegance" (starting at €75,070) and "R-Line" (starting at €79,660). At the top of the range sits the premium Touareg R eHybrid, a sporty and elegant model developed by Volkswagen R (starting at €93,870).
